The figures quoted in the article seem to suggest acknowledgement by the media and the government would cause a sea change in our behavior. Politicians, government workers and the general population do not give a damn as long as they feel safer, unwilling to acknowledge that because of our killing we are less safe.
Of course, that is not the issue, either. Not how we feel about our safety, but how we feel about lives other than our own. We seem to be going backward in that regard.
